Fordham University Has a Long History of Notable Alumni. Fordham University is a private, Roman Catholic research university in the Bronx. Built-in 1841. It is the oldest Catholic and Jesuit institution in the region’s northeast.
Its mission is to educate students about leadership. And service in a culturally diverse environment. The university offers a variety of academic programs. Including master’s, doctoral and professional degrees.
Denzel Washington
Denzel Washington is a two-time Academy Award winner. He’s been praised for his versatility in acting. He’s also been a champion of theater education at Fordham. And has gifted the school with generous donations of over $2 million.
He is a Fordham alumnus and serves on the college’s board of trustees. He occasionally shows up on campus as well. where he inspires youngsters with his accomplishments and sage advice.
He recently lent his name to the Denzel Washington Endowed Chair in Theatre. And a new scholarship for undergraduate theatre majors at Fordham. He’s also a supporter of the Phylicia Rashad Chair in Theatre. Which opened on the Lincoln Center campus last year thanks to his donation of $2 million.
Amanda Seyfried
Amanda Seyfried is a famous American actress. She made her acting debut in Mean Girls and has starred in the HBO series Big Love and several films.
As a teenager, she took vocal lessons, studied opera, and trained with a Broadway coach. She also started working as an extra in the daytime television drama Guiding Light.
She then had a recurring role on the CBS soap opera As the World Turns and on the ABC soap All My Children. She subsequently appeared in several independent films. Including Nine Lives (2005), Alpha Dog (2006), and Veronica Mars (2004-2006).
She has received numerous awards and nominations throughout her career. She has also starred in several successful films, including Mamma Mia! Which earned her the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress. She also has two children with her husband Thomas Sadoski.
Dylan McDermott
Dylan McDermott was born and raised in Waterbury, Connecticut. His mother died when he was five and he lived with his grandmother until he was seventeen.
He attended Fordham University in New York City. A private Jesuit research university founded in 1841. It has several notable alumni in the entertainment industry. including actors Alan Alda, Raul Julia, and Denzel Washington.
McDermott started his career in theater and film. He appeared in Neil Simon’s Biloxi Blues on Broadway. And then shot a raw Vietnam war drama called Hamburger Hill.
Faith Evans
One of the most versatile R& B singers in history, Faith Evans began singing at the age of two. She is also a composer and an actress.
She attended Fordham University on a full academic scholarship. But left a year later to focus on her career in music. She worked as a backup vocalist for several artists, including Al B. Sure! and Hi-Five.
She was signed to Bad Boy Records in 1994 by Sean “Puffy” Combs. Her debut album, Faith, was a critical success. Her music was compared to legendary soul divas Minnie Riperton and Chaka Khan.
Taylor Schilling
A rising star in the world of acting. Taylor Schilling has been a series regular on Netflix’s Orange is the New Black since 2013. She won an Emmy for her role as Piper Chapman and has earned two Golden Globe nominations.
